Don’t Let Your Ego Destroy Your Growth Mindset

If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.

I don’t know about you, but as true as this quote is, I haven’t always lived up to it ;-)

Sometimes it feels good to be on top! But this attitude doesn’t encourage a growth mindset, even though we’re often taught to think like this.

In our formative years, we were taught to equate “success” with getting the best grades or being at the top of our class.

But if you’re attached to being at the top throughout the entirety of your adult life, this’ll end up biting you in the butt.

In fact, if you’re routinely the smartest person in the room and aren’t placing yourself among people who challenge you… it might have a little more to do with your ego than you care to admit ;-)

When you put yourself in situations where there’s a comfortable margin between you and everyone else, your ego stays satisfied. It’s not in the least bit threatened.

You get to feel nice and comfy, secure in your superiority.

And yet this means that you aren’t stretched to grow. You’re in cruise mode, with the opposite of a growth mindset.

I know that’s not the place you want to be!

In order to achieve massive success, you need to be the small fish in the big pond!

To be clear, I’m not saying you should stay small, or not go for growth in your life and your business.

Actually, I’m arguing for the opposite!

Instead of being among people that make you FEEL like you’ve got it all together and are doing great – but don’t push you to BECOME better, smarter, or richer… You need to spend your time with people who BOTH support you and CHALLENGE you to raise your game.

It’s SO much easier to step into your true power when you’re surrounded by other people who are going for growth.

People who are grateful for what they have but desire more for themselves, their businesses, their relationships, and their bank accounts with NO SHAME about it.

People who are leveling up as quickly as they possibly can, as they work towards huge visions and financial goals. People who will call you out because they are doing the work and ACTIVELY running the stairs themselves!

In order to maintain a growth mindset and raise your financial set point…

You have to surround yourself with people that MATCH your desired mindset.

That’s when you know you’re in the right room.
